Home News and Updates CNHED Dusts Off Yellow Shirts for First Advocacy Day Post-Pandemic

On Monday, April 29th, CNHED successfully revived its Annual Advocacy Day, bringing more than 150 residents, practitioners, and allies to the Wilson Building to meet with District Councilmembers. This is the organization’s first Advocacy Day since 2019 — before the pandemic. We were thrilled to finally reintroduce our traditional in-person advocacy engagement for this FY2025 budget season, reigniting the annual event.

What is Advocacy Day?

Advocacy Day is one of CNHED’s major advocacy events where organizational members, residents, practitioners, and allies gather in person to passionately urge the DC Council to prioritize affordable housing and community economic development programs in the upcoming District budget. The goal of Advocacy Day is to secure funding for critical programs that will greatly benefit not only the under-resourced communities in the District but also CNHED’s organizational members.

Our Commitment to Resident Voice and Agency

CNHED is reaffirming our dedication to empowering and amplifying the voices of the community through our budget advocacy process. It is crucial for allies, advocates, and community members to remain vigilant and visible in advocating for a budget that truly represents the active involvement of all of DC.

We understand the difficulties faced by residents and businesses in the District during this budget year, and we are committed to working together to bring about change in the future. Below are CNHED’s recommendations for the FY25 Budget, which shed light on the importance of each program, the overall necessity, and the rationale behind the proposed budget figures. Our primary focus is to enhance program design, implement process improvements, and address historical injustices to benefit the underserved residents of the District.

THANK YOU!

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the DC Council members and staff who graciously took time out of their busy schedules to meet with our members, DC residents, and business owners. These meaningful conversations have truly made a positive impact and we appreciate their dedication to our cause.
