CNHED celebrates the graduation of 14 District residents from our Second Cohort of the Community Voices Academy!

We are thrilled to announce the graduation of Cohort II of the Community Voices Academy (CVA) on June 11th! Over the past 10 months, these remarkable individuals have dedicated their time and energy to obtaining the tools, training, and resources necessary to convey their perspectives and achieve their policy and advocacy goals. The CVA serves as a critical bridge between CNHED, our members, and the residents most impacted by the District’s budget and policy decisions on affordable housing and community economic development.

The graduation ceremony was a memorable event, starting with a warm welcome from Lamar Richards, Senior Director of Advocacy and Community Engagement at CNHED. Rachelle Ellison and Luther Lacey, alumni from Cohort I who became facilitators for Cohort II, delivered inspiring alumni addresses that highlighted the importance of community involvement and leadership.

CNHED was excited to welcome Amber Hewitt, PhD, Chief Equity Officer at the District of Columbia’s Office of Racial Equity as a Keynote Speaker for the graduation. Her speech was impactful, empowering, and a rallying call for continued advocacy and equity. Steve Glaude, President and CEO of CNHED emphasized the vital role that our graduates play in fostering positive change within their communities during his introduction of Dr. Hewitt.

Additionally, Alton Cheaves, a standout member of Cohort II, shared his heartfelt reflections on the journey and the impact of the program on his life and community.
